In Italy, it's very important to do nothing at least a few times a day!"

Here’s a word of advice, when traveling to Europe, particularly to Italy, you need to release the notion that you are in control.  Is a fantasy that we Americans like to foist on ourselves in the first place, but when you come to a new country where you don’t know where you’re going, you don’t speak the language and you need someone else’s help just to order lunch, it’s humbling.

But it’s also very liberating.

That’s where I’d like to hang out for a moment.

Now, you might say, “But don’t you want to just let go and relax on a holiday or vacation?”
And indeed, that’s true but I’m talking about releasing control completely and being totally in the moment.  That’s something that we Americans have a LOT of trouble doing.  It requires trust, humility and the thought that someone else knows more than we do.  It gives them power and that makes us uncomfortable.

I say, what’s so wrong with slowing down and giving someone else the reigns once in awhile?  Let’s take food, for example, (and you knew it was going to come around to food!) what if we constantly put ourselves in the hands of true artisans and let them guide us in our food choices?  Congratulations!  You’ve made it to the true essence of what I’m going to be blogging about for the next several weeks.
